Veterinary Surgery Services
The veterinarians at FVH are skilled and experienced with all types of soft-tissue surgery, including spay and neuter, dental surgery, removal of growths, oncological (cancer) surgery, cystotomy (bladder stones), wound repair, and many more. We also provide selective orthopedic surgeries.
Prior to surgery, we recommend blood work to assess overall health and make sure it is safe to proceed with anesthesia. Using ECG, pulse oximeter, and sometimes, blood pressure equipment, we make sure your pet is carefully monitored throughout the surgical process. The surgeon evaluates each pet prior to surgery and the safest anesthetic protocol is chosen.
Most routine surgical procedures are performed on an outpatient basis, and you may take your pet home the same day. However, some procedures require an overnight stay so that we can monitor your pet’s recovery.
We require all pets to be checked in for surgery the night before, this helps with not only being able to monitor and medicate your pet but with their comfort level as well. During your pet’s surgery check-in appointment, you will be given the opportunity to speak with one of our Veterinary Technicians. Please use this time to convey any questions or concerns you may have for the doctor. On the day of surgery, we ask that you call after 2:30 p.m. so that a member of our staff can provide you an update and a time that your pet is ready to go home. You will also be provided with detailed written instructions for home care.
